Dentistry And Coronavirus: Is It Safe To Visit The Dentist?

If you need a routine teeth cleaning in Elm Grove, WI, you may be wondering if it’s safe to come to Honest Teeth for an appointment with Dr. Max Meinerz or Dr. Kyle Krueger. Can you get the dental care you need safely, even with the coronavirus? In this blog, we’ll discuss just a few of the steps and precautions that we’re taking to minimize the risk of virus spread, and make sure that our patients get the dental treatment they need in Elm Grove. Read on to learn more.

Conducting Pre-Appointment Checks Before All Appointments

First and foremost, we’re doing our best to screen out people who may have been infected with COVID-19 coronavirus. The best way to prevent its spread is to ensure our office is virus-free from the start.

In service of this goal, we’re conducting pre-appointment checks and asking questions to determine whether or not our patients may have had contact with an individual who has had COVID-19, or has shown symptoms that may be consistent with infection.

Maintaining Social Distancing For Patients

We have reconfigured our waiting room to ensure that all patients can wait at least 6 feet away from each other, in accordance with social distancing guidelines. You also have the option to check in and then wait in your car until your appointment, to ensure that you stay safe and protected.

In addition, we have taken steps to spread out patient appointments throughout the day, and reduce the overall number of patients we see each day. Reducing the number of people in our office at once will help mitigate the risk of virus spread.

Utilizing PPE To Minimize The Risk Of Virus Spread

Our dentists, dental assistants, and hygienists have always used PPE like masks, glasses, and face shields to prevent infection. However, our front-office staff members are now also using PPE to minimize the risk of virus transmission.

If possible, we do ask that patients wear masks to their appointment, and remove them only when they enter the operatory and begin to receive their treatment. This will help keep our patients and staff safe.

Following All Protocols For Disinfecting Operatories

We have always followed CDC, ADA, and OSHA guidelines for disinfecting operatories, surfaces, dental tools, and supplies used between each patient. But due to the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak, we have implemented even more strict protocols to minimize infection risk and virus spread.

Cleaning And Disinfecting Commonly-Used Surfaces

In addition to disinfecting operatories, we are also taking steps to disinfect commonly-used surfaces such as counters, doorknobs, and bathrooms more frequently. We also provide easily-accessible sinks, soap, and hand sanitizer for patients who wish to clean their hands.
