Getting Invisalign in Elm Grove from Honest Teeth? You have recently switched to a new set of Invisalign aligners and they aren’t seating properly, leaving large gaps between the aligner and your teeth. What should you do if your aligners don’t seem to fit? Here are 4 steps you can take to ensure that your treatment continues without delays or complications.
1. Try Using Invisalign “Chewies” To Seat Your Aligners
You can get chewies from our office as part of your Invisalign treatment, or order them online. Invisalign chewies look similar to a cotton roll, and are designed to be very squishy, chewy and durable.
To use chewies, simply pop one into your mouth after you replace your aligners, and chew it for about 5 minutes, making sure that you chew it in every area of your mouth. Using a chewie can help press your aligners back into the proper position, and ensure they hug your teeth properly, even if they’re very tight.
2. Make Sure You Wear Your Aligners For At Least 20 Hours Per Day
If you are not following your dentist’s instructions for wearing your Invisalign aligners, your treatment could fall behind, causing tracking issues with your Invisalign trays. You need to wear your aligners for a minimum of 20 hours per day, and most dentists recommend wearing them for 22+ hours per day.
Remove your aligners only to eat and drink (except water), and to brush and floss. The more you wear your aligners, the less likely you are to have tracking issues and delays in treatment.
3. Ask Your Dentist If You Can Backtrack To An Older Set Of Aligners
If your new set of aligners feels particularly tight and chewies aren’t helping, you may want to ask your dentist for approval to backtrack to your previous set of aligners. It may be possible that your teeth haven’t completely shifted as they were intended to, based on your treatment plan.
Wearing an old set of aligners for a week or two can ensure that your teeth are in the right position. Then, you can switch back to the set that wasn’t tracking properly, and see if they fit.
4. Contact Your Dentist For An Invisalign Treatment Revision
In some cases, your Invisalign plan may simply not be completely accurate. Sometimes, teeth take more time or force to shift than your plan will predict, so you may need to have your treatment revised, and need to get a few sets of new aligners.
In this case, your dentist can work with you to adjust your treatment, get new aligners, and take other actions to correct the position of your teeth.
